till the 3rd yr.. vikramshila used to be the name of a train... finally we got together one winter morning and boarded a passenger train towarsds kahalgaon..there were 7 of us..most of them veggies.. so we siphoned off daal rice from the mess along with a pressure cooker.. on the train we were offered with tomato in each stop.. each tokri of 10kgs was priced as rs 10..the peasants took us to be sabji middlemen.. for them selling tomato at the source station itself was better and they were ready to come down to any rate.. we took 2-3 kgs for 5 rs.. finally walked to Vikramshila khandahar and started to cook.. the remanants are still in good shape and the lNitish government did a fine job of marketing it..but during our time we had no information broshures or any idea where to go..we just went around and kept our imagination flying on the actual use of some of the remanents( later some of us would be fortunate to goto nalanda and get the actual idea of kind of architecture in use).. nobody came there and a solo sign board of ASI read prohibited area.. later i guess nitish govt has made it a tourist spot..but the area is still mired in poverty and some kind of extremists.. so it is not advisable to stay till dusk..
How we returned back.. later
